This Saturday night at Toyota
Speedway in Irwindale, California, D & D Construction Specialties/Dan
Moore Racing will field three Super Late Model racecars for the
season’s final race in the premier Division at Toyota Speedway. Team
owner Denise Moore has given the green light for Dan Moore to bring
his shop guys out as a way of thanking them for all their hard work
over the season.
The driver line up will consist of veteran Dan Moore, Rod Johnson
Jr. and Toyota Speedway legend, Rip Michels. Dan Moore is currently in
third place in the SLM series point standing at Toyota Speedway. Dan’s
Crew Chief, Stevie “Big Thunder” Boldroff, will be calling the shots
from the pit box. Stevie finished Dan’s newest Victory Circle Elite
chassis racecar last week. The car named “ Madonna” looks to have some
speed right out of the box.
The second driver is third generation racer Rod Johnson Jr., who
will be making his SLM series debut in the #91 D & D Construction
Specialties Ford. AKA Bobby Lite, or RJ to his friends, currently
competes in the Super Truck Division at Toyota Speedway. RJ is the
current leader in the rookie of the year points battle, and is 4th
overall in the season’s point battle. RJ is no novice when it comes to
racing it has been his life. RJ is the son of Rod Johnson, the Toyota
Speedway 1999 SLM champion, and multiple time track champion. He is
also the grandson to the legendary West Coast car owner, Donny
Johnson, who has fielded cars for the likes of Oren Prosser, Dan
Press, and Jim Robinson, just to name a few. He is also the nephew to
Mark Perry, who currently drives the #10 SLM at Toyota Speedway, and
Dan’s Crew Chief, Stevie Boldroff.
Making his Crew Chief debut for RJ will be Shawn “Sweet Daddy”
Dickens, who currently is the Crew Chief for Dan and Denise’s
daughter, Lexi Moore who runs in the D & D Bandoleros Division at
Toyota Speedway. “Rookie Crew Chief, and rookie driver, should make
things interesting,” commented Shawn Dickens, “I mean, the SLM should
be pretty easy to set up compared to the Bandoleros.”
Rounding out the driver’s line up will be none other “The Ripper,”
Rip Michels, who is the all time winningest driver in Toyota Speedways
history. Rip, the 02, 03, and 07 SLM champion, will be making his 08
SLM debut with a brand new Victory Circle Elite car. Rip, who is the
chassis specialist/ Team Manager for D & D Construction
Specialties/Dan Moore Racing, has been looking to get back behind the
wheel for a long time. Rip last raced competitively in the SRL Flashco
Southwest tour race at Toyota Speedway, back in April where he
finished second.
“I have a feeling that RJ is going to make both Dan and I get on
top of the wheel and lay down qualifiers all night, otherwise he’s is
going to blow right by us. Just in case, I made sure to fill his Ipod
with the Jonas Brothers music to mess with his head, but I don’t think
it is going to work. He’s a good kid, a hard worker and a smart racer
he’ll do great,” said Rip.
“We have wanted to do this all year,” said Denise Moore. “We just
simply ran out of time.” “I am looking forward to having team mates on
the track,” said Dan Moore. “RJ has been a great mechanic for me, and
Rip, well what can you say, except he is simply the best. I wanted to
thank them all for a great year, and what better way then racing
against them.”
The entire D & D Construction Specialties/Dan Moore Racing team
would like to congratulate Nick Joanides on capturing his first NASCAR
championship along with all the people at Jackson Race Cars. Rip did
have a message for Nick, “The party’s over Nick, we’re bringing three
cars and were not racing for 2nd,” joked Rip
