Race Report:
Altamont Motorsports Park |
The team had a very busy
three days this past weekend with a test session at Irwindale
speedway on Friday night, the team then headed at 10:00PM Friday
night to Altamont, Ca., which is located 80 miles west of San
Francisco, CA., to compete in the "Altamont Motorsports Park 150"
The team arrived on Saturday for the open practice session, since
this was the first time that Rip and the team had competed at the
speedway they brought a car with a very conservative set up. That
set up would post the 2nd fastest time in Saturday's practice
session.
On Sunday, the team felt that they had a good car, good enough to
be at the very least a top five car. Rip again set the 2nd fastest
time in Sunday's practice session and ended up qualifying the car
in the 4th position. There was an 8-car invert of the field
putting Rip in the 5th starting position. At the drop of the green
flag Rip quickly moved up to the 2nd position where he ended the
night.
The second place finish put Rip and the number 12 Stock Building
Supply/Ladco Racing/Victory Circle Chassis Chevrolet Monte Carlo
into first place in the season Championship chase.
"I could not be more pleased with our results this weekend,"
commented Rip. "This was one of the tracks that we had concerns
about since we had never competed here, for us to finish second is
like a win for me and the team." Rip was asked how he likes the
view from the top of the championship mountain, he stated, "It is
to early to even think about a championship, I like our position,
but we have 4 more races to compete in. I just want to continue to
have consistent finishes like we have been doing all year long. If
we can continue to do that, the points will come."
Rip and the team’s next race will be in Stockton, Ca on July 15,
