This Saturday, October 14, 2006, the 2006 NASCAR AutoZone Elite
Southwest Series Champion, Rip Michels, will be heading to the
great state of New Mexico to compete in the “Stock Building Supply
USLMA Salsa 100” at Sandia Motor Speedway located in Albuquerque,
New Mexico.
This will be the first time that Rip and his Stock Building Supply/Leeco
Racing/Victory Circle Chassis Chevrolet Monte Carlo racing team
will compete in the United States Late Model Association, a series
that competes in three states, Colorado, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
This race is an opportunity for Rip and the team to thank all of
the Stock Building Supply Associates for all their continued
support of the race team. Stock Building Supply is sponsoring the
race to say thank you to all of the contractors in the New Mexico
area. “Sponsoring a race like this gives us a great opportunity to
build our customer relationships,” said Rick Smith. “This is an
excellent way for us to thank all of our customers in the New
Mexico area.”
The
Team:
The team
has stayed pretty busy since the last race in Altamont on
September 23, 2006,” said Mechanic, Chris Lazarde. “We had a race
that was added to our schedule at Irwindale Speedway on September
30, 2006 in a Super Late Model, which Rip won and captured his
45th career victory at Irwindale. The team has been preparing the
cars for this race, and next weekend’s NASCAR Toyota All Star
Showdown race at Irwindale speedway, so we have not had a lot of
time to celebrate the championship. We will have to celebrate it
after the final race of the season on November 9, 2006.
The
Drivers Corner:
Sandia Motor Speedway is ½ mile track, and is
very unique. It has 6 degrees of banking in the corners,”
commented Rip Michels. “The track has only one wall and that is on
the front straight, no walls in either corner, or on the back
straight, which means if you get punted off the track, you’re
going to be out in the desert. The track should be similar to
running the bottom grove at Irwindale, so we are going to use this
race as a test session for the showdown. If we get the car right,
we should have a shot at the win.”
“I would like to thank everyone of the Stock Building Supply
Associates from the New Mexico area for their support of this race
team. We hope that we can put on a good show for them to show our
appreciation.”
The
Car: Destiny
Chassis Destiny has had an incredible record.
In its last 13 starts, it has finished with 1 win, 8 top 5’s, and
12 top tens. Its last race was on August 18, 2006 in Salt Lake
City, Utah, where it finished 10th.
The
Race:
The “Stock Building Supply USLMA Salsa 100”
race at the Sandia Motor Speedway 1/2-mile oval is located in
Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is a day race with practice starting
at 10:00AM. Racing starts at 1:00PM. For more information about
