Rip and the team headed
to the famous Stockton 99 Speedway to compete in the "AutoZone
Stores of Stockton 125 by Havoline." On a day that saw the
temperatures rise to 115 degrees in the shade, both driver and
crew struggled all day just to survive the heat.
The team had the sixth fastest practice time, but lost a little bit
of the grip in the car during the qualifying run. Rip ended up
qualifying in the 10th position. At the drop of the green flag Rip
tried to play the patient game, but ended up in a chain reaction
accident on lap 10. Rip had suffered heavy front end damage, and
had to head for the pits for some extensive repairs. The team only
lost 30 laps in the pits and ended up finishing 16th.
"We were really happy with the car," said Rip. "I felt that this
was the best car we've had in the four starts on this track. It
was just a shame that we got caught up in an accident on lap 10."
Rip's next race will be at Pikes Peak International Raceway on July
23, 2005. Pikes Peak is a one mile D-shape oval, located in
Colorado Springs, Co. This race will be stop number 9 for the
Nascar AutoZone Elite Southwest Division. Look for the teams press
