Rip and the crew headed to the beautiful hills of Sonoma,
Ca to compete in the Blue Lizard Australian Suncream 200 at the
1.949 road course at Infineon Raceway. This is the second trip to
Infineon Raceway for Rip and the team, and Rip's second time ever
competing on a road course. Last year Rip finished 10th in his
inaugural visit to the track.
Rip was 26th fastest in the morning practice, and qualified 18th on the
field of 47 cars. At the drop of the green flag, Rip immediately
started picking up positions, moving into the 10th by lap 20. Rip
then pitted on laps 22 and 29 relegating him back to the 28th
position. Rip started making his way back up through the field to
the 10th position. With five laps to go Rip was in a spirited
battle with David Gilland, Stan Silva, Jim Inglebright, and Nextel
Cup stars, Kyle Bush and Travis Kvapil for the 8th position. On
the last corner of the last lap, Gilland taped the car of Kyle
Bush sending him pinning off the corner. Rip went high to avoid
the spinning car of Bush and crossed the line in the 13th
position.
"We are really happy with our performance today," said Rip. "Last year we
came here just to learn and get the best finished we could. This
time, we were really able to race. I really like this track"
"Rip did an awesome job today, this being only his second time on a road
course he raced like a season veteran." said Team Manager, Michael
Medlin. "The crew did an awesome job on the pits stop and it kept
us running with the lead pack all day"
The team's next race will be at the famous Stockton 99 Speedway located
in Stockton, California on July 15th. Rip and the Stock Building
Supply/Ladco Racing/Victory Circle Chevrolet remained 10th in the
points. They are now 251 points out of first with 7 races to go.
