Rip
Michels and his Stock Building Supply/ Ladco Racing/ Victory
Circle/ Chevrolet racing team. Made their second trip to the
beautiful state of Colorado with high hopes. The team was treated
to an awesome Bar-b-gue on Friday that was prepared by the great
folks of Stock Building Supply’s Colorado Springs store. Rip and
the team signed autographs and got to field a variety of questions
by both the employees and customers.
“We really enjoy doing these autograph sessions,” said team manager
Michael Medlin. “ Most of the people we talk to only have limited
knowledge of Nascar racing. It is usually Nextel cup racing that
they know of. When they find out that drivers like Kevin Harvick,
Kurt Bush, and Casey Mears have all started their driving careers
in our division, they always get excited to learn more”. Medlin
commented.
“This is a great way for us to get to know the people who support our
racing efforts from Stock Building supply,” said Rip Michels. “I
along with the team really enjoyed ourselves,” said Rip.
Unfortunately the team did not get the results they wanted in the race.
Rip qualified 3rd and due to the invert, started 6th. Rip moved
into second on lap 80, only to have a right front flat under green
conditions stop there day, resulting in a 19th place finish. “The
car was extremely fast from the moment we unloaded,” said Rip.
“Although we did not get the results we wanted, we feel that we
made a huge step in getting our cars faster. Our next race is in
Tucson Arizona on Saturday September 18th, which is a track that
is similar to Colorado National Speedway. Even though we have
never raced Tucson the team has high hopes for a good finish,”
commented Rip.
Rip currently leads the Autometer Rookie of the year standings with his
6th win. He currently sits in 10th position in the points.
