Rip Michels and his Stock Building Supply/LADCO
Racing/ Victory Circle Chassis/ Chevrolet racing team, made a
surprise visit to Irwindale Speedway this past Saturday night.
The new Victory Circle Super Late Model car was to make its debut
on Saturday August 28th in conjunction with the team’s charity
event for the John Wayne Cancer Institute. The team had finished
the car at 3:30PM on Saturday and the team decided that they would
go to Irwindale to shake down the car.
“We had no plans to run on Saturday, but when the car was finished
the guys wanted to go to Irwindale as it is only 30 minutes away
from the shop. So we loaded up the car and got to the track about
4:45PM,” said Rip.
The team had missed qualifying but was able to get in about 6 laps
of practice but had an oil line come loose, which caused the car
to smoke. The team got the oil problem fixed and started the race
dead last on the field. Rip worked his way up to finish 9th.
“We are really pleased with the car, Craig and Les at Victory
Circle build a beautiful race car. Considering we did not get to
tune on the chassis and finished 9th, we are really happy,” said
Rip
“Saturday the 28th of August is a big deal for me, my team, and my
sponsors,” commented Rip. “ It is an opportunity to raise some
money for a great cause and give back to those who are stricken by
such a terrible disease as cancer. We are giving away a Hood from
one of our cars and some lucky fan is going to win a suite for
their use that night. So we are really looking to run up front,”
said Rip
