Race update (#2)

Driver Rip Michels
and his Stock Building Supply race team headed to Madera
Speedway for stop #2 on the NASCAR Autozone Elite Division,
Southwest Series event. This was Rip’s first trip to Madera
Speedway.
PrimeSource Building Products was the primary hood sponsor for this
event at Madera Speedway.
After practicing in the top 10 most on the day, the team felt
confident about a strong qualifying run. Very intense
qualifying by the entire field resulted in a pole time of
14.719. It would take an 14.976 to qualify for the race on
time. Rip’s first lap was a 15.193 and his second lap was a
little faster at 14.980 good |

out of 31 cars.
Starting on the front row of the B-main, Rip took the lead on lap
2. He lead until the final lap and finish second taking the
final starting position for the feature event. Starting 22nd
in the feature event Rip kept pace with the leaders until lap 13
when the car had a drive line failure ending his night.
Rip was the only rookie to make the race and now leads the rookie
points with 17 points. He also moved up from 31st in
points to 21st after 2 events.
Next race will be at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, California
where Rip won his first championship in 1997 driving a Grand
American Modified. The race will be on March 28 and will start
at 3:00pm. |
