After reviewing tapes of the Grand American modified main event Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway, NASCAR officials declared Dean Kuhn of Oceanside the winner in a Dodge, reversing their earlier decision that Rip Michels of Mission Hills was the winner in a Chevrolet.
The race ended in confusion as Michels, while leading, had his engine expire, bringing out a caution flag. Kuhn assumed the lead, but almost immediately the race was stopped because of time limitations. Michels was dropped back to ninth after the review.
All four main events were shortened because of delays caused by accidents. The super late model main event became the Home Depot 75 with Greg Voigt of Goleta winning. Sean Woodside, after winning Friday night's Southwest Tour race in Bakersfield, started 30th because Todd Burns qualified his car and finished seventh. Burns won the late model final event.
