Rip Michels stepping up to Super Late Models at Irwindale Speedway in 2001
Rip Michels of Mission Hills, CA, will be making his rookie debut in super late models on
opening night at Irwindale Speedway in 2001. The 2000 Irwindale and 1997 Mesa Marin grand
american modified champion will be piloting a brand new car for owner Lee Ladd.
The team will compete in the entire Irwindale super late model schedule, contending
for the championship and rookie of the year honors. They will also run selected open comp
races at various western region tracks.
The year 2000 proved to be a record setting year for Rip in the modifieds. He
completely dominated the division winning 10 out of 12 races, 6 fast times and setting a
new track record. The modifieds have been a great stepping stone for me and a lot of
other drivers says Michels. Over the years I have been able to race against
guys like Phipps, Johnson, Blankenship, Dimarzo, Krieger, Kuhn, and others that pushed me
to be a better racer.
Racing a super late model is a dream come true for me. They attract the
best teams and drivers and will be big challenge for our team. I could not do
it without the support of Lee and all my sponsors, there a huge part of our teams
success.
The sponsors for the 2001 season will include, Ladco racing, Cardservice
International, Hoopers rear end exchange, Spangler racing, Stick only, VSE and
BCSportsimages. For more information, Visit Rips
