RIP'S RAMPAGE Leaves the COMPETITION SEEING RED
Coming into Saturday nights racing action, Rip Michels was on a roll. Fresh
off a very impressive weekend including a new track record and his forth consecutive main
event win in a row, Rip arrived at Irwindale Speedway saturday afternoon with one goal in
mind.....five in a row!
From the moment the #12 Cardservice/Ladco Racing Grand American Modified was unloaded off
the trailer it was evident that five in a row was very possible. After some slight problems
in practice, Rip hit the track in hopes of another convincing qualifying session. Rip
posted the classes fast time once again with an impressive time of 18.454 seconds. With a
few minor changes Rip took to the track once again for the 6 lap trophy dash were he had
to start in the back due to his fast time. At the green flag, Rip got a great start and
started picking cars off one at a time. By lap 4, Rip established himself directly behind
the leader of the race and within a few more turns had taken over the lead for good. Rip
went on to win the dash in convincing fashion and things were looking great going into the
main event.
By good fortune, Rip ended up starting the 30 lap main event on the pole position. At the
start of the main, the #03 of Jimmy White broke out front from the outside of the front
row. For the first several laps Rip followed White very patiently looking for a opening to
make his move. By lap 10, Rip's car was primed and ready for the lead spot as he made a
impressive pass coming out of turn four to take over the #1 position. A few late caution
flags allowed the field to catch up but Rip's restarts were flawless and allowed him to
pull away each and every time. At the checkered flag it was the #12 Cardservice/Ladco
Racing Chevrolet that crossed first with the next closest competitor over a full straight
away behind.
As you can see, Fireworks weren't the only objects lighting up the night sky at Irwindale
Speedway this past weekend. The bright red #12 Grand American Modified of Rip Michels is
on a tear and is proving to be unstoppable! With 5 out of 6 main event wins on the season
thus far, Rip is definitely the man to beat.
Look for Rip this Saturday July 8th going for 6 in a row.Source: Jimmy Babcock
