Irwindale- The 1999 Racing Season has just come to a close and it was our
most successful and fun season ever at the new Irwindale Speedway. After winning the
Mesa Marin Championship in 1997 we took a year off. In 1999 Lee Ladd of Ladco Racing
came aboard as Car Owner. Lee was able to bring Dr. Pepper in as Primary Sponsor.
Two other drivers, Brian Kelley and Gerrit Cromsight were also on the Ladco Racing-
Dr. Pepper Team both finishing 2nd in points and Lee winning the First Championship
in the Mini Stock Division.
Our seeason started out great! On opening night we set fast time setting the track record.
In the main event with 3 laps remaining we passed the leader and went on for the
win.
The season also had its low points - In practice we unfortunately totaled the car and had
to replace the whole front clip in a week. On another night we broke a Right Front
hub causing us to loose steering and brakes, and with nowhere to go we hit the parked
Ambulance which was located in the infield. The ambulance was moved between the tow trucks
after this race.
After all of our ups and downs we had our most dominating season ever:7

The year 2000 just around the corner and another racing season is set to begin. Dr.
Pepper will not be returning, so we are currently searching for a Primary sponsor for Rip
Michels Racing.
In preparation for the 2000 season we will be rebuilding the Motor, Transmission,
Suspension and inspecting and maintaining the rest of the car (The new season will also
bring a new paint scheme and a possible number change).
The 1999 awards banquet in January will be the conclusion to our season and I hope to see
some of your there. Then its back to the Garage so I can get the car ready to finish off
the job I started in 99. CHAMPIONSHIP
