2007 Irwindale
Speedway Super Late Model Champion: Rip Michels |
How does one become a
legend in West Coast racing, or in racing period? What makes those
determining factors, which separate those individuals whose names
are mentioned, and you immediately think, one of the best.
Is it by what that person accomplishes that gives them that title?
Is it their commitment, their hard work that brings them to that
next level? Or is it all of the above?
For this writer, it is all three. When I think of the legends, such
as Petty, Earhardt, or the West Coast racers like Dan Press, Oren
Prosser, Rick Carelli, Jim Thirkettle, Dave Phipps, Jimmy Inslo,
Jim Robinson, Jim Petit, and Ron Hornaday, just to name a few. You
look at what they accomplished, and you see the difference from
all the rest. Multiple Championships, inventors of the sport, guys
who worked their tails off and it showed each and every time they
showed up at the track. (FULL STORY) |

Irwindale. A season, which saw Rip and the team win the Super Late
Model Division Championship, and the 2003 Nascar Sunbelt Regional

Sunrise Ford Race
Report: Team on a Mission |
The Sunrise Ford Racing
team swings back into action this Saturday night at the famed
half-mile speedway that is known as Irwindale Speedway, or as the
competitors like to call it, “The Dale”
Rip Michels and the team have been on a tear of late, winning 8 out
of the last 10 races, including 7 in a row. Coming into this
weekend’s race, Rip holds a 38 point lead over second place with 6
events remaining in the 2007 Super Late Model season.
“I could not be any more prouder of my team,” said Rip Michels.
“The team has now been together for 6 years, and is more like a
family, than just a race team. The team has been real successful,
with two SLM championships, a NASCAR Regional Championship, and
the last ever Southwest Tour Championship. I feel that it may be
one of the best teams on the West Coast. I know that sounds
impartial on my part, and hell, maybe it is, but the proof and the
stats are out there to back that claim up. So for me, it is easy
to make that statement.” (FULL STORY) |
